Katu CARRYING BASKET｜EXTRA LARGE WITH LID｜MEDIUM DARK

An extra-large lidded bamboo carrying basket handcrafted by the Katu people of southern Laos.

Traditionally used for carrying and storing harvested produce, the basket features a finely woven bamboo body, rattan reinforcement, and a fitted lid.

Measuring approximately 57 cm in diameter and 115 cm in height, this exceptionally large size can only be made by a limited number of skilled artisans. It can be used for storage or as a fixture.

This is a contemporary piece made using natural materials. Exposure to wood smoke develops the bamboo into a subdued medium-dark tone, while continued use and age gradually bring greater depth and luster to the surface.

・Exposure to wood smoke creates natural variations and unevenness in color depending on the basket’s position during the smoking process.
・Soot has been removed as thoroughly as possible without significantly altering the surface color, but small traces may remain. Please take care to avoid transfer to white walls or clothing.
・As the basket has been stored in a space with a traditional cooking hearth, a smoky scent may remain. Minor marks from storage may also be present.
・As each piece is made entirely by hand, variations in weave, form, and finish will occur.
・Colors may appear slightly different depending on the photography and display environment.
